- Some events may have other restrictions as far as limited attendance, etc. There are registration deadlines for all courses. Not all events are open to all members. Please refer to the schedule for registration and restriction details.
SPECIALTY EVENTS
Corduroy & Carving
- This course is designed for snowboard instructors refining their riding skills and working on carving and groomed terrain. During this course you will experience and discover techniques used to improve your understanding of both riding and teaching students to carve. Be prepared to learn and use terminology that will reinforce safe riding and coaching your students to switch edges with out pivot (or waiting for the board to face downhill). You will review movement analysis techniques used to determine when students are prepared move into the carving realm. Experiment with fun riding tasks that can be used to teach students to "play" to develop the necessary skills and gain experience before heading to more difficult terrain. Wearing a helmet is not required, but is encouraged at this course.
Skills for Riding Park & Rails
- This course is designed to improve an instructor's teaching and riding skills in terrain parks. You will review movement analysis techniques used to determine when you and your students are prepared to attempt to ride terrain park features at your home resort. Groups will review the NSAA's Smart Style Initiative and group safety will be stressed throughout the entire course. Appropriate terrain features will be utilized in an attempt to challenge everyone in the group as we explore how movement and performance concepts are applied to non-snow features. Use of appropriate terrain in teaching/learning will be discussed. Further time will be spent on coaching other group members to better performance by utilizing movement analysis skills applied to our new understanding of cause and effect relationships between rider, board and feature. Instructors should be prepared to ride appropriate sized terrain park features, coach each other, and share in discussions of your resorts policies and procedures regarding teaching in freestyle venues, terrain park design and maintenance, Wearing a helmet is not required, but is STRONGLY encouraged at this course.
Skills for Riding Pipe
- This course is designed to improve an instructor's teaching and riding skills in the half pipe. You will review movement analysis techniques used to determine when you and your students are prepared to attempt to ride half pipes at your home resort. Groups will review the NSAA's Smart Style Initiative and group safety will be stressed throughout the entire course. Appropriate terrain features will be utilized in an attempt to challenge everyone in the group as we explore how movement and performance concepts are applied in and out of the half pipe. Further time will be spent on coaching other group members to better performance by utilizing movement analysis skills applied to our new understanding of cause and effect relationships between rider, board and feature. Instructors should be prepared to ride the pipe, coach each other, and share in discussions of your resorts policies and procedures regarding teaching in freestyle venues, terrain park/pipe design and maintenance,. Depending on lift accessibility, the group may decide to hike the pipe. Wearing a helmet is not required, but is STRONGLY encouraged at this course.
Old Fart Pipe & Park
- This course is designed to improve an instructor's teaching and riding skills in the terrain park and half pipe, but at a different pace than other sessions. If this clinic applies to your mindset when it comes to freestyle (you know who you are; past participants have been 24-72 years young), this is the clinic for you! You will review movement analysis techniques used to determine when students are prepared to attempt to ride freestyle terrain at your home resort. Groups will review the NSAA's Smart Style Initiative and group safety will be strongly stressed throughout the entire course. Appropriate terrain features will be utilized in an attempt to challenge everyone in the group as we explore how movement and performance concepts are applied in and out of the half pipe and terrain parks. Further time will be spent on coaching other group members to better performance by utilizing movement analysis skills applied to our new understanding of cause and effect relationships between rider, board and feature. Instructors should be prepared to ride the pipe and appropriate sized parks, coach each other, and share in discussions of your resorts policies and procedures regarding teaching in freestyle venues, half pipe and terrain park design and maintenance. Wearing a helmet is not required, but is STRONGLY encouraged at this course.
