Children’s Specialist 2 (CS2) will continue building on the instructor’s knowledge and skills from the Children’s Specialist 1. The CS1 course is a suggested prerequisite for the Children Specialist 2 (CS2) course.* The course focuses on the specifics of child development for young learners as they progress through the Beginner/Novice to Advanced Zones. Participants will integrate their technical understanding of the CAP model with movement analysis and teaching activities for children in the Intermediate and Advanced Zones.

Evaluations of those taking the CS2 course reflect the participants’ knowledge of teaching children, and individuals. Successful completion of the course grants professional recognition to the instructor and industry for their education, experience, and expertise in teaching children snowsports. This is a multidisciplinary course.

Evaluation Criteria:
  • Participant must be Level II or Level III Certified.
  • Must complete the CS2 Workbook & Quiz prior to attending the course.*
  • Participant must score 80% or higher on online quiz (evaluated with the online workbook).
  • Must be an active participant in course.
  • Must submit completed workbook at event registration.
  • Must contribute at the event during roundtable evaluation / scoring of CS2 Workbook.
  • A passing score from children’s divisional education staff based on the participant’s demonstrated knowledge, understanding, teaching and movement analysis.

Note: Current Level II or III members in good standing are not required to have their CS1 credential prior to taking the CS2 course. However, it is strongly recommended that members complete the CS1 workbook to help members determine if they should take the CS1 course. Unless you are an experienced children’s instructor, taking the CS2 course without the CS1 credential is a very difficult task.

* The CS2 Workbook & Quiz are available on the National LMS Website free of charge. Once you are logged in, go to My Account, and then My Learning, to see the content you already have access to. If you haven’t done so already, you will need to complete a “purchase” process to access the CS Workbook. As you’re working on your workbook, please pay special attention to the instructions on how to save it so that you can come back and continue your work. When you are finished, click when prompted to download the PDF version, and print out the workbook to bring it with you to your event. There will be links to Teaching Logs, Essay Questions and Final Exam for your workbook. Please be sure to complete all steps.

Please complete the workbook as soon as you can. It’s not hard, but it does take thought and time. Some questions specifically reference information in the current Children’s Instruction Manual, so it is suggested to have a copy nearby. Some of the questions are in essay form so the computer will not score these. The essay questions and fill-in-the-blank questions will be reviewed at your event. Please take a moment also to review the videos under Children’s Resources on the Eastern Website prior to your clinic.
